Lucy Paine Bio

Lucy Paine was born and grew up in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. She later moved to London where she completed an Art Foundation with Kingston University. Due to wanting to learn more technical skills in drawing and painting, she moved to Florence, Italy. There she studied for three and a half years at Charles H Cecil Studios; an atelier specialising in portraiture and dedicated to the revival of figurative art. During her time at the studio she studied the sight-size technique. This method has been sourced back to Old Masters as far back as Titian, Van Dyck and Velázquez and is a practice conceived to aid the artist painting entirely from nature, resulting in a truer likeness to form and allowing for more atmospheric rendering of light effects. At Charles Cecil Studios she later progressed to teaching short courses to less experienced students of the practice.

Lucy subsequently gained a scholarship to study at The Sarum Studio; a similar atelier in Salisbury where she worked to refine and adapt the skills she had acquired to her own personal style.
